Run the Risk

After years of unfulfilled New Year’s Resolutions, five years ago I decided to embark on a different process of renewal: setting a personal mantra to live by.

Make Your Life a Story Worth Telling
In 2014, I aimed to make my life a story worth telling. At the end of our journey, all of our possessions will fade away, but the strength of our legacy and the story of our life will remain.

Get Outside of Your Comfort Zone
In 2015, my mantra was to get outside of my comfort zone. When you go beyond the places that make you feel safe, you enable yourself to truly discover who you are and what makes you feel most alive.

Don’t Schvitz The Small Stuff
In 2016, I did my best to not let the little things get to me. After all, the people with the brightest minds and the biggest hearts choose to see the world in a powerful, positive perspective. That is what paves the way to create a massive impact.

Find the Funny
And this past year, my mantra was to find the funny: a vow to actively seek humor in everyday life. The truth is, life is literally abound in comedy; you just have to look for it. It’s all about perspective.

As Oprah would say, these mantras help me “live my best life.” They have become my guiding principals and influence how I approach my life on a daily basis. So, I’m pretty eager to dive head first into my mantra for 2018: Run the Risk.

People often tell me that I take a lot of chances. When I was only 13 years old, I started a blog that turned into a national phenomenon #ThatHousewifeGuy (seriously, what was I thinking?).

At 18 years old, I dropped out of traditional college and went to night school for a job that built the foundation for my career. Years later, I then quit (well, sorta) that job in New York for a two-month gig in California… leading me to the amazing job that I have right now.

And earlier this year, I dumped all of my savings into starting my own side business, Camp Blueprint, which is taking off way too fast for me to even keep up.

So, yes, I do take risks. I take risks because they keep paying off.

The chances I have taken have not always gone as planned or expected. Successful or not, every risk comes with the reward of a vital learning experience. And as I swap stories with colleagues and friends, we all come away from risk with one similar takeaway: when you push through fear, exhilaration lies on the other side.

So, with that said, I’m looking forward to all that 2018 has in store… and I’m even more excited to announce that this spring my #NewYorkOffice is turning into an #AtlantaOffice! (My boss is pretty amazing, eh?!)

That’s right, I’m moving to HOTLANTA!

Camp Blueprint will also follow me down south and I will continue to wreak havoc and bring camp spirit into professional office settings!

I’ve reached a point in my life where I feel like where I am is simply no longer where I am supposed to be. So, I’m packing my bags and changing that. Is the ATL the right place for me? To be honest, I have no f****** idea. But I’m willing to run the risk and find out.

What will your mantra be this year?

Wishing you all a joyous holiday season and a Happy New Year! All the best in 2018.
